- Fishers: Fishing caregivers must meet only one condition, and that is that they must have earned $3760 or more in income from their self-employment fishing during the qualifying period.
- All others: Two conditions must be met for the above occupations and all others:
- The caregiver will receive this benefit only if a medical doctor or physician certifies that the person receiving care is seriously ill, injured, or at the end of life.
- The caregiver must act like a family member to the person receiving care.
